Overview

The goal of Treatment Court is to improve the quality of life in our community by reducing abuse of alcohol, drugs and related crimes by targeting substance-abusing offenders through a combined program of intensive outpatient treatment, close monitoring, and appropriate sanctions and incentives.

Purpose of Treatment Court

The intent of this team-based program is to provide a system of treatment and accountability for substance abusing/addicted offenders to break the cycle of substance abuse/addiction and incarceration. The team is led by the Treatment Court Judge and consists of a prosecutor, defense counsel, treatment provider(s), and coordinator/probation officer.

The Court recognizes the problem of alcohol and drug abuse/addiction in that the use and abuse of these substances is a major contributing factor in the commission of crimes which are a threat to public safety, prison overcrowding, and congestion of the criminal court docket.

Participants are required to attend intensive outpatient treatment and appear before the same Judge for continued accountability. Participants will be on intensive probation supervision and submit random observed drug tests.

The Treatment Court program is approximately 15 - 18 months long, however the length of time is based on individualized needs, treatment goals, and phase competencies. The Court may extend the program or modify treatment to allow for additional time to successfully complete program requirements.
